Below is a collection of portrait works that I have completed since the beginning of 2013. I enjoy capturing odd perspectives and using bursts of color in unexpected places. When creating a portrait, my primary intention is to translate the sitter's personality onto the canvas, panel, or other substrate that I am working on. For this reason, my portraits are an interesting combination of realistic and gestural work - I leave brushstrokes on many of them to heighten this perception of gesture or movement. Although I do some larger-scale work, most pieces are of relatively small scale (11" x 14" or smaller). The interaction between subject and viewer is thus more intimate and must be seen at close range to see the smallest and most precious details.
